It's football season! My team is weak this year but we'll get better. Here's my parental handout

Coaching Philosophy

We keep score!! I want the kids to have fun but part of athletics is learning to win with style and lose with dignity. We will work hard, play intense and CLEAN at all times.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parental Conduct

Do not yell at the kids or Referee's! It is our obligation as adults to lead by example!
Respect and appropriate conduct starts with the parents.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Convey these concepts to your athlete

1) Sportsmanship is a must.

2) Defense - we will play set positions all year. It's too difficult to try switch positions on each play

3) Offense - I will rotate so each child has a chance to carry, catch or throw the ball. It's hard to keep track during the game but I'll do my best to make sure each kid gets a chance.

4) If the YMCA has a tournament at the end of the year I'd like to participate. I think its great for the boys to go out and leave it all on the field in an effort to win. Regardless of win or lose there's a lesson for kids to take away from the experience.

5) The kids can call me coach or Mike - either is fine. Several called me "Sir" today and that's just not necessary. The only "Sir" in my family is 76 years old - My father :)

6) No spiking of the football. When your child scores they are to turn around and respectfully hand the ball to the Referee. Cool is a rule - spiking the ball is not COOL!

7) No player, regardless of ability, is bigger than the team!

8) Sundays are boys day! I will happily take your son and provide pizza for the Packers games. This offer stands all season so go ahead and make plans - I'll take the boys.

9) If you'd like to take your kids to a Packer game but are having difficulty getting tickets - call me! I'll acquire them for you.

10) Having fun is a rule. However, the best way I know to have fun while playing football is to win.

Parents, use me as the heavy! Convey to your kids that I expect them to be respectful of you and their elders. I also expect them to perform scholastically. Playing sports is a privilege they must earn. Poor grades or conduct means they don't play football on Saturday. You'll be amazed at how hard they work if they know we're working in synergy!

Call me anytime,

Michael *******
Coach of our 2007 Seattle Seahawks
