Not saying I could fix it - just acknowledging that, for Bernanke, it's like driving a car that one minute has the handbrake off your grandmother's bicycle, and the next, the airbrakes off a tractor trailer.

Interesting analogy..

I think we've all read that the Fed's "driving technique" for regulating the economy amounts to heavy use of brakes and accelerators... They're either stomping on the accelerator keep the economic engine from stalling, or slamming on the breaks to prevent losing control.

Maybe that's what Bernanke is trying to avoid by his choice of using the discount window. But I still think that he's been late to the table with regard to FF rate cuts. The Fed's been applying the brakes for well over a year now (look at the inverted yield curve in the 10 year T-bill), and now the engine is on the verge of stalling.

Time to let off the breaks and apply some accelerator.
