China Tech to Enter Burgeoning Solar Market, Shares Soar More Than 50 Percent on News

NEW YORK (AP) -- Hong Kong-based China Technology Development Group Corp. said Friday it will make and sell photovoltaic components, marking the company's expansion into China's rapidly growing solar energy sector.
China Technology, which provides information network security, said it will use technology from Terra Solar Global Inc. to make a tin oxide base plates used in thin film photovoltaic products.

The company's U.S.-listed shares surged on the news, adding $2.64, or 55 percent, to $7.43. The stock has ranged from $2.60 to $9.45 in the past year.
