"Thompson advised Lockerbee accused

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- As a lawyer, Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson played an outside role in the defense of two Libyan suspects in the 1988 Lockerbie plane bombing.

About three years after Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, Thompson billed his firm for 3.3 hours of advice given to another lawyer representing two Libyan intelligence officials charged in the bombing, The New York Times reported Sunday.

The Pan Am bombing killed 270 people and some law firms refused to represent Libya or the suspects, The Times reported.

Thompson, who worked part-time for the law firm Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn, has said he makes no apologies for his legal and lobbying work, that every person is entitled to representation, The Times reported."
