I don't know if it is advisable to use diuretics long term.

foodanddiet.com

The constant, frequent use of diuretics as a form of weight control actually causes serious health problems including, but not limited to:

* severe dehydration
* high blood pressure
* severe headaches
* fatigue
* heart palpitations
* irregular heart beats
* congestive heart failure
* heart attack
* stroke
* constipation
* urinary tract infections
* renal failure
* convulsions
* death

Good luck.

I think there are better ways of living.

Doctors appear addicted to them.

In the case of acute pulmonary edema it is a different story.
But I will warrant there are other ways to reduce BP that are less troublesome by far. I would only use them short term for severe cases and work on adjunct therapies that can take their place.

There is controversy however amongst the medical mainstream.
