That's what I did before Food Saver. They are good but don't keep air off the content the way Food Saver does. My SIL told me when I bot mine "leave it on the counter top, or you won't use it." She was absolutely right. Once I made room on the counter for it I use it regularly. I reseal the potato chip bag, the cookie bag, and stuff like that. It's a great deterrent to chip snacking... if you know what I mean.
