I didn't state that they unduly influenced SPEC, I posted that they largely wrote the benchmarks. Go to the older docs (that may have since been edited, perhaps because of the lawsuit, so you may need to find an older copy). Note that since they used to clearly state that it was Intel engineers working on them, I don't see anything wrong with what they did. They were contributing to the creation of an industry benchmark and if what they happened to know how to optimize for best was their own chips, well why should that surprise anyone? I've been tracking CPUs from a techie standpoint for (gulp!) decades, now, so I've seen all this over the years. If you're new to it, you'll have to do some reading.
