For server benchmarks, Barcelona is looking somewhat interesting. If someone buys an 8 core box and then runs a single, single threaded application, Barcelona is not going to be a good solution.

But for a server...

Intel must be sweating this one. Given the scaling we've seen in the past, they'll need close to a 5ghz Penryn to match a 3ghz Barcelona. And 5ghz has been kind of a bad luck number for Intel.

Now at least I can understand why the Intel fan squad has been so shrill this morning. Those benchmarks are pretty scary for Intel's server business.

As more applications are optimized for multiple core systems, AMD will narrow the gap on the desktop, tool.
