Well, I found out that AMD was lying about at least one thing - power use.

I replaced a single 2212 with a pair of 2347s and power use (measured at the wall with a WattsUp Pro) went from 205 watts to 211 watts. That means I went from 2 cores at 2ghz to 8 cores at 1.9ghz (but higher IPC) AND powered another heatsink fan for 6 watts.

Figuring the fan uses a couple of watts it means that a 1.9ghz quad core Barcelona uses almost exactly half the power of a dual core (non HE) Santa Rosa.

I was not expecting that one!

That's at idle (in a Chenbro case with 7 drives running and redundant 500w power supplies). 3 of the drives configured as a RAID 5 on a Broadcom Raidcore controller (which is crap and why it was lying around available).

Doing windows updates the power use has been bouncing up to 235/240 and back down to 210/215. A bit of that increased power use is from additional disk activity during the updates, too.

Caveat: The first power check was done before flashing the bios from 1.4 to 2.01 - there may be significant power savings from the updated bios. This is amazing enough that I may go through the hassle of changing out these CPUs again just to verify the power use.
