Thanks for the well thought out reply.

see leftward movement on just about every issue in the mainstream public. That the Bush admin might be fighting that movement isn't odd- but they are out of step with the country

But Bush won the election, and with that win came the two supreme court nominations that will impose their will on the people. The liberals can always stop a supreme court nomination - if they have enough votes.

You also say that the acceptance of drugs is huge, even if the federal government doesn't get it. There has been no meaningful legalization of drugs - until there is, this can hardly be used as an example of a move to the left.

I think there are as many, if not more, homophobes today than in the past. The Larry Craig example is that he was more feared of being labeled a homosexual than he was doing a crime.

Gun control has been labeled a liberal issue - by both the left and right.

Environment;but the public actually cares about the environment now (and that just wasn't true in the 60's when environmentalism was some fringe lefty movement That "fringe lefty movement" was able to pass FOIA in 66, NEPA in 69, Clean Air Act in 70, ESA in 73 and Safe Drinking Water Act in 74. Tell me one meaningful environmental law passed since that time.

So though our leaders may lean right, they're going the opposite way of the people

I promise, if you can garner enough votes you will win. You seem to watch the right get elected and are in denial as to where the votes came from. In every election - if most of the people are leaning left as you think, there will be a politician to run! Dale is spot on when he says that is why it is so important as to who gets elected. Will Hillary move left if elected? I think she will on some things - not others.
