The biggest flurry of amateur military pronouncements occurred just before General David Petraeus testified before Congress on the situation in Iraq. Many Democrats publicly dismissed what he said before he said it, and some implied that he was a liar before he opened his mouth.

Why should our military leadership expect better treatment, from any American civilians, than that which those same leaders offer their own?

I watched with utter dismay the presentation by Generals Brown, Abizaid, Meyers and former SECDEF Rumsfeld on C-Span 3. I was equally disturbed by the public presentation of Army Secretary Pete Geren and General Cody. I am saddened by the leadership void they have created within our army.

The public flagellation of Lieutenant General Philip Kensinger and other army officers was the most over-reaching example of weak leadership I have ever witnessed.

It is patently obvious that General Kensinger and the others were used as a scapegoat for these generals failures. Attacking Kensinger enabled them to deflect attention away from their own failure to accomplish their mission set during the past six years of war.

The Congressional attack dogs we saw yesterday used a similar tactic. If the US Army and DOD leadership can create a disastrous public spectacle by inappropriately besmirching the good name and reputation of one of their best generals, and we fail to respond, why is it now appropriate to condemn Congress for the same behavior?

After all Congress has failures to hide too. Yesterday they had General Petreaus in a box and many were quite willing to shoot at him scornfully in another weak kneed attempt to deflect attention from their own failures.

The answer is neither is appropriate and both instances should be condemned equally, but they were not, at least not by the press - left or right.
