I was in Juneau Alaska preparing to go to work. Four hour time difference. I watched until the towers went down, then went to work, from where our director sent us home after a short meeting. The entire federal building was sent home for the day. After that, I became interested in the evacuation plan for the federal building and had our department rendezvous three blocks away during fire drills, because if the same thing happened there we would need to be that far away to avoid getting crushed. All aircraft operations were shut down, which meant that people in field camps had to stay out there in the rain, not knowing why their pickup didn't show. Some people flying in Alaska were surprised to be shadowed by a jet fighter, and directed to land immediately.
