My house was under major renovations, I was staying at my mothers house until I could move back in. I came upstairs, she was watching CNN and said a plane hit the World Trade Center, I didn’t give it much thought, I chalked it up to a freak tragic accident. I watched the TV, then another plane hit the other tower, then I knew this was terrorists.
We continued to watch the TV, not leaving for the office. My mother said what if these buildings fall down, I said no way, they would not fall. Later I was stunned when the buildings did fall, it was surreal watching this unfold on TV. Some office buildings in my city (Calgary, Canada) were evacuated for fear of the same thing happening here.
We went to the office, that’s all we talked about with clients all day. Later that night after all planes were grounded we went to the airport and looked at all the planes parked on the runways, I guess no room at the terminals for them. There were a lot of people there taking photos of all the planes. Many American people on those planes were welcomed as guests in a lot of Canadian homes, until they could get back to their own homes in the US.
I remember one news anchor say, you will remember this day for as long as you will live. He is right. |
