New Technology Enables Corporations to Customize Video and Text Information,
Creating Private Multimedia Channels for Each Desktop
GARTNER SYMPOSIUM/ITEXPO '97, LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Gartner Group Symposium today, Worldwide Broadcasting Network (WBN) introduced 451F, a powerful multimedia search and retrieval service that transforms traditional video feeds and programs into customized television channels accessible from a desktop PC. Unlike traditional news clipping services, this new, fully automated technology enables customers to search vast streams of video content and parse them into clips, which can be indexed and delivered on-demand or in real-time. Based upon the word categories chosen by the user, the video clips will be commingled with other related text content to create customized information channels.
WBN is demonstrating 451F this week in their exhibit booth #1009 at the Gartner Group's Annual Symposium in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. To demonstrate the customization capabilities of 451F, WBN is integrating news and information from leading national and international content providers such as CNN Headline News, MSNBC Business Video, Nightly Business Report, Morning Business Report, C-SPAN, WCVB-TV from Boston and INDIVIDUAL, INC... These programs include news feeds and roundtable discussions, business and financial updates, professional training programs and government testimony.
WBN Makes Video Relevant to the Business Market The unique parsing and indexing capabilities of 451F are key to this technology's importance to business. "[It] opens up a huge potential market for using video that has been topically segmented and indexed," said Michael Goulde, vice president and senior consultant with Seybold Group, in a recent issue of Seybold's Weekly e-Bulletin (Sept. 15, 1997). "The amount of information locked away in videos is enormous, as is the opportunity for WBN to bring that information to Web sites and desktops throughout the world. We believe that WBN's 451F technology has broad applications and will appeal to a wide variety of customers."
"We can all wade through information from a myriad of sources -- the Web, TV news, print media and videos," said WBN CEO Dariush Gholizadeh. "451F drastically changes audio, video and text information delivery by allowing users in news, communications, finance and other businesses to be selective about what, when and how much information they want to see."
How 451F Technology Works The 451F system is powered by proprietary video segmentation and content management software running on Windows NT. It supports leading third-party video encoders, video servers and databases.
It uses open Internet protocols so that any user with a desktop PC and Web browser can create and access a commingled information channel.
To set up the 451F's customization feature, the user enters key words. The key words set up a master profile of topics and categories that create an intelligent agent to seek and gather only relevant information. Each employee has the option of narrowing his searches by creating a personal profile that includes subsets of topics from the company's master file.
Users view their customized information by accessing a 451F Web site that stores their file and all relevant multimedia information. Users can select from event-driven and on-demand delivery options.
Additional 451F features include: -- Segmented and indexed live video -- On-demand and real-time "event-driven" distribution -- Related video and text stories integrated into one comprehensive desktop platform -- Customizable page layout, update frequency and distribution methods -- Filtered stories based on user-defined categories and keywords -- Control of individual employee usage and access privileges.
Minimum user requirements include a Pentium PC with sound card; 16 MB RAM; Windows 95 or NT 4.0; Web browser; 10 MB free disk space.
Pricing and Availability The 451F service is priced on a monthly subscription basis per enterprise. Customers using 451F create a direct network connection to WBN's local Internet Service Provider.
If a customer already has an existing text news information service, WBN can link directly to that service. The 451F service is now available through WBN.
