Nearly as long isn't the same as "as long". Illegal immigrants are poorer than most Americans and there is a correlation between poverty and shorter life spans. Legal immigrants and the descendants of immigrants probably due ok in terms of life span, but the illegal immigrants are very likely to have shorter life spans.
