Looking at this link..

electricitystorage.org

surprised to see the core of the battery is maintained 24/7 at 300 degrees centigrade and is considered to have a high cycle lifetime.

Further down, the efficiency is rated at 86 percent DC which is very good IMO but where it seems to fall short is life cycle...listed at only 2500 or more.

Round trip cycle of, only once per day, means life of battery is only seven years, at 2500 cycles.Twice per day...3 1/2???

At the end of its cycle lifetime what happens?Anyone know?

VRB has it beat on round trip cycles at over 12,000, electrolyte is good forever and no risk of explosion..also a proven energy storage system on large and small scales.

<<<<<UPDATE: 8/9/07: The following is from an email I received from VRB Power Systems (I have not been contacted by NGK): The VRB system actually does have a fast response time of <1 ms which we believe is comparable to NaS batteries. Also, the round trip efficiency (AC-AC) of our system is superior to NaS batteries with an efficiency of between 65-75%.>>>
