that has nothing to do with the truly main issue: political reconciliation in Iraq

The question is not whether political solutions are necessary, everyone agrees they are. The question is if this is the moment to give up hope for political solutions and pull the plug.

There's a moving situation on the ground. Political situations depend on military situations to a large extent. The trendlines have turned positive, and reports say that local solutions are begining to come together, even if Baghdad isn't functioning. Since something finally seems to be working, shouldn't we give it at least another six months and see what things look like then?
