What you're overlooking is that the surge had nothing to do with the "success" in Anbar. Once AQI is gone--and I doubt it will be long--what will happen there? There is Shia factional strife in the South, where the British finally gave up and withdrew.

We're going to wait 6 months whatever gets decided here. In fact, plenty of troops will be there for several years, whatever anyone says.
