Our government protects and rewards the incompetent and stupid. BOTH parties do it, just to different groups of people. As a result we are becoming a nation of incompetent sheep with highly specialized knowledge in whatever job we do (i.e. smart at work, dumb everywhere else).

I am hoping against hope that the government does not bail out the stupid this time but am sure they will. It will most likely be a waiver of tax on the debt forgiveness. Ironic that the tax is the only thing that will really maim the jacka$$es that used zero down loans to severely over-leverage themselves. The speculators otherwise have no skin in the game. A 6 or 7 figure tax bill that they cannot escape through bankruptcy or moving to another state seems pretty fair to me.
