I'm a fan of consumption taxes assuming we are going to keep government this large for the rest of my lifetime.

I see work, saving, and investment as very positive things that shouldn't be taxed if possible. I see some limited types of consumption that should probably not be taxed either. But after that, IMO the more you consume the more you should be taxed. A consumption tax would naturally hit wealthy people harder because they consume more. It would also reward prudent behavior when we are comparing people with similar incomes. There might be some issues with tax rates being regressive that would need to be addressed. I've never seen any of the proposals and am not an expert. But I really like the concept.
