October 07, 1997: Indonesia gathers evidence for legal action against 29 companies over fires

JAKARTA (AFX-ASIA) - Nabiel Makarim, who heads the Environmental Impact
Control Agency's pollution control department, said it is gathering evidence
to take legal action against 29 firms which the government has accused of
illegal burning, according to Antara news agency.
"Our teams are currently taking samples to prove that there has been
pollution and environmental damage done," Makarim said.
"These samples will be used as evidence to take these companies to court,
" he said.
He said the evidence includes air samples.
