Wine grapes are sensitive to different climates. Some like Pinot Noir and Reisling thrive on cooler climates. Others like Merlot need ample warm days to mature. Still others such as Voignir Syrah want to be in downright warm environments. There are even some varieties that thrive in places like Lebanon. Because France, Germany and Italy were the first places to make great wine, they will be the benchmark for a long time to come.
