Sasol Chevron plant to outshine Oryx

The size of the gas-to-liquids (GLT) facility on Australia's northwest coast could be about 66 000 barrels of fuel and other products a day, according to a feasibility study by the Sasol Chevron joint venture.

Pieter Greeff, the managing director of Sasol Chevron Australia, said this week that the joint venture could complete the feasibility study for the GLT project towards the end of next year or by early 2009.

The GLT facility would cost more than $2 billion (R14 billion) to build - at least double the cost of the Oryx GLT plant in Qatar. The Oryx GLT facility is building up to design capacity of 34 000 barrels a day. - Justin Brown, Johannesburg
