Weather Futures Continue to Advance

Sep 13, 2007

Chicago, Wednesday September 12th 2007, FIRST ENERCAST FINANCIAL – September cooling degree day contracts cleared through the CME continued to advance as forecasts continue to support warmer than average conditions for the remainder of September in most cities. Atlanta was the largest gainer on the day, jumping by 26 CDDs. Chicago, Houston, and New York also experienced double digit CDD gains. Weather markets continue to support higher than seasonally average energy demand through the next few weeks. This should help keep weekly natural gas injections below normal in the weeks ahead.

************************************************************

By the end of the month, NG inventories in the US look likely to be ~100 BCF lower than last year, a bullish indicator given that total CDD's for the season to date are about the same as last year, in spite of all the additional supply that was available this year vs. last year. This is particularly significant in light of the fact that there is about 75 BCF more storage capacity this year vs. last year. I believe with a normal winter we should easily see $7-8 natty prices, consistent with the futures strips.
