Ditto. The Yen. Russia was one of the first rat CBs to leave,
I mean, stop buying dollar. There are enough dollar holders
inside Russia. So, as these dollars come out from under the
mattrasses, the Russian CB has to buy them. Apart from that,
they were buying Euro and Yes, gold. That gold was from the
Russian producers, so this results in decreased supply on the
World markets, rather than being a direct purchase.
Nevertheless, net-net, the result is the same - withholding
supply instead of increased demand.
