I see your point. When I worked in upstate New York I used to run in to large estates that I had to enter in order to do my job. Some of these were very well fortified. I could never tell for sure, but I got the creepy feeling that some of them were owned by the mob.

There was one place that was known to be a mafia R&R site, but I never visited that one.

I can appreciate that crime must be run in a businesslike manner at that scale. Those people are not dumb, not by a long shot. I just don't like the idea that they solve some of their competition problems by rubbing them out.

"The Road To Perdition" illuminated that pretty well, I thought. Paul Newman did a great job playing the mob boss who partied with people before his men killed them. Tom Hanks' performance was brilliant too, as it always seems to be.

Hanks and Russell Crowe seem to be able to become their characters so well that you forget they are actors. I loved John Wayne, but the cowboy was always John Wayne, not the son of Katie Elder.
