Value Invesment Selection Criterion

At this juncture of the market cycle, I think that many value investors have failed to use the proper criterion in identifying the next potential big winner. Since many value stocks are trading near their 52-wk lows, we need to add certain matrices, other than the traditional value ones, in finding the right candidates. I suggest that we need to focus on stocks with historical high volatility, relatively small number of shares outstanding, actively traded relative to number of shares outstanding, and the existence of a large short position. NFI seems to be one that meets all these criterion to be petentially a big winner. Just take a look at this chart of NFI's historical trading range, and how it emerged from the previous cyclical bottom of the housing-mortgage industry in the 90's.
