LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1997--The DVD Video Group, the new organization created to promote the benefits of DVD Video to trade and consumer audiences, announced the addition of six new members, including Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
In less than three months, DVD Video Group membership has grown to 31 members -- 21 regular and 10 associate members. In addition to Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Simitar Entertainment also joined the group as a regular member. New associate members include Cinram, Crush Digital, Digital Video Compression Center and Sony Disc Manufacturing.
"Such rapid growth and near universal support for the new group's promotional charter sends a strong signal to the trade and consumers that DVD Video is here to stay," said Emiel N. Petrone, chairman of the DVD Video Group and executive vice president of Philips Electronics.
"Through a variety of communications programs, including trade show participation, the launch of our Web site, the creation of a consumer brochure and other initiatives, the DVD Video Group is striving to increase consumer awareness of the benefits of DVD Video," said Petrone.
"As we head into the fourth quarter, we're confident that working together, we'll have a spectacular selling season."
Regular members of the DVD Video Group include the home video divisions of motion picture studios and music labels, as well as consumer electronics manufacturers that are currently producing DVD Video products.
Associate members include companies involved in the creation and production of DVD Video discs, including specialists in authoring, compression, replication and packaging services.
Buena Vista Home Entertainment recently announced that its first DVD Video titles will be available by year-end. Simitar Entertainment currently has more than 60 DVD Video titles available or scheduled for release in the near future.
The DVD Video Group is a Los Angeles-based, industry-funded nonprofit corporation that exists expressly to promote consumer awareness of the benefits of DVD Video and to provide updated information about DVD Video players, movies and music videos to the media, the retail trade and the consumer market.
