Somewhere between french and american positions lie common sense. Even if one accepts the premise that the war in iraq, was a stupid move, and incompetently administered, iraq is a key front today in the war against iranian shiaa expansionism in the sunni arab middle east. (PLease note i didnt say al quaeda, although al queda stokes the flames of the civil war in iraq) US obviously has manpower constraints. The Brits are leaving. If one is willing to go to war over iranian nukes, it puzzles me why other nations refuse to play a more positive role in iraq in combating iranian expansionism or at least pacifying iraq so the three groups & iran can find some accomodation. I am not calling for troops for combat but perhaps some assistance/police forces/training for targeted areas in iraq.
