There's no doubt Nokia knows mobile phones really well. Problem is that its phones are still stuck in the traditional mold. Same old, same old. Ho-hum. Utilitarian and boring, IMHO. Even the N95. It's something you might get if you needed a very good smart phone that does a lot of stuff. But it's not something you would get excited about, unlike the iPhone.

Nokia lacks the IT factor. When was the last time anyone camped out overnight for a Nokia phone? The serious, grown-up people tend to underrate the importance of gaget-lust. These are the people who make lists and compare features until they go blind. They can't bring themselves to trust their instincts and go with what quickens their pulse. No, they have to analyse and make the objective choice. Fortunately, for Apple, the majority of consumers don't function like that. We likes what we sees and we opens our wallets ;)
