The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that former Bre-X Minerals chief geologist John Felderhof has endured a lot of ups and downs in the past 10 years, but the one constant in his life is his certainty that there is gold in Busang. The Globe's Paul Waldie quotes Mr. Felderhof as saying in a press release Monday: "I can only hope that one day someone will go back and re-evaluate the property. I remain ready and willing to help in any way that I can." The comments were the first by Mr. Felderhof since he was acquitted of illegal insider trading charges last month. In the statement he praised his lawyers and said his legal fight was often a "lonely, lengthy and exceedingly difficult battle." Mr. Felderhof, 67, was the only former Bre-X official to face charges of any kind in connection with the Calgary company, which crashed in 1997 after third party drilling failed to find gold. Since Bre-X collapsed Mr. Felderhof has divorced, remarried and moved to the Philippines. Mr. Felderhof made the statement in response to numerous requests for interviews, said his lawyer, Joe Groia. Mr. Groia added that Mr. Felderhof declined to be interviewed because of several civil lawsuits relating to Bre-X.
