Power consumption has always been one of the biggest problems with WCDMA. Why would Apple come out with a 3G device in it's first product cycle anyways? Next year, they can roll out another 10 million 3G iPhones to replace the 2G EDGE iPhones. There is no reason to skip an entire sales cycle, just to go with an unproven technology.
