There are three different videos of this incident that I found, and when you put them together, it gives an interesting (and I think) more complete picture of the whole thing.

Meyer looks like a cleancut college kid but when he took the mic, he began a long rambling question referencing a book he had read, and then announced (pretty belligerently) that he had two more questions when they told him his time was up. At that point, the kids were moaning at him. They turned off his mic, and the police went to lead him away, and then you get the clip posted here where they take him down. The third video shows him in the hall being led out, when I swear he is playing to the camera, because he glances at it and then starts a tirade. He says things like, "People know I'm here. You can't kill me" and "They're turning me over to the gov't!" He really plays to the audience at the end. If I were his mother, I would put him in the corner for a time out.
The cops, outside of the use of the taser, were pretty calm and low-key, particularly once they had him outside the room, telling him to take a deep breath and calm down. I imagine that when someone starts losing control in a venue where there is a Senator in front of them, the cops get a little nervous.
I agree with you. The police did their job, though I do question the use of a taser. |
