I am thinking that Northern Rock was the reason for 50 bp instead of 25. A bank run in an English speaking country adds large contagion risk - and the FED did not want to be behind the curve.

This will bail out most of the brokers, except Bear Stearns.

This may provide a window for fixed refis for many people whose mortgage will reset next year.
