it is the way all empires eventually go

spain thought it a blessing that it could pillage gold in copious quantity from its colonies

britain thought it could finance endless wars

france thought it could print prosperity

germany thought default by printing would be painless

america thinks it can do all of the above, and take apart the russian empire while at the same time keep taiwan from reunification, by depending on burdened india, aged europe, and sniffing japanese
