OK- I am tossing this out just to see if anyone has had experience with it-- besides DIck Cheney.

My husband (age 52) had a deep vein thrombosis last March. His leg had been aching, but because he's athletic, he thought it was a muscle pull. After a few days, he decided it wasn't and went to our family dr. who immediately sent him for an ultrasound, and they sent him right to the hospital- do not pass go, etc.

They started him on coumadin and also some injections (I forget what they were) into his stomach, and he came home the next day (doing his own injections). The scans showed he had some small emboli in his lungs, but nothing serious, apparently, since he had only a slight cough. He's been on the coumadin since then, but in a couple of weeks, they will stop that, and just put him on an aspirin a day.

He travels a LOT, but is careful to do exercises and walk frequently now on flights. He doesn't smoke and I don't remember the third factor- but it didn't apply.

The dr has told him that DVT is a random thing, and there was no telling why it happens. He seems unconcerned that it will recur but of course, I am worrying- maybe because his father had an aneurism at 54, and has had several strokes since then.
Have no idea if that's related.

Does anyone have any insights or experience with this?
