>> So let me give you another hat to wear. You are next pres. You inherit this mess. What would you do in our relations with SA and Iran and Iraq to make things better for the US?

I'd make nice with Iran. In the long run, the US interests are far more with Iran than with anyone else, including Israel.

I'd force the Saudies to level off and behave or else I'd help the Saudi Shia, who happen to have all the oil anyway, to break away.

I'd push for a real and equitable solution to the Pal-Israel problem. This means that the Pals should have all the resources to make a viable state, rather than two barren strips of land that are miles apart.

Most importantly, I'd stick my nose out of internal affairs of all other nations and would generate some good will by building hospitals, schools, and other social works in countries that are of interest.

In short, I'd become a good world citizen and a pillar of stability.

The problem is, that no president is going to have the power to do that.

Among other things, it is in the interest of a good chunk of US power brokers to see a never-ending enmity and chaos between Arabs and Israelis.

Nor are the oil companies interested in stable cheap oil or alternative energy supplies.

So I am not holding my breath.

PS It is not true that we buy most of our oil from Saudis...again, you are believing what you are told rather than looking at the interests involved.
