I am not sure why Merrill Lynch would do that, although many ETF's are fairly new and do not have much trading volume.

By and large, however, ETF's are giving the common man access to markets of all kinds, that are not otherwise accessible. That is combined with lower management costs than most mutual funds, and a diversification of risks across multiple stocks, or in this case across 4 commodities.

And the future looks bright for corn, sugar and soybeans as growing fuel sources. (Synthetic diesel from soybeans and other fats).
