If the authorities would get off of their superior high horses and treat everyone equally this kind of thing wouldn't have happened.

If this was set off by the question about the tree, the Principal should have diffused it at the start. This school had everybody congregating by race, they all do, in every section of the country. We promote it in Colleges with racial dorms. Even in the Army, people sit by race at meals. This is normal behavior for human beings all over the planet. A simple, "you can sit where you please, but doing so would be provocative and cause trouble, so please don't do it," would have sufficed.
