Horse racing. The good news is, I won today's "Showvivor" contest at Sam Houston Race Park, beating 53 other players. The bad news was, 4 of us survived and tied for first place.
In this contest, we had to pick a horse to show in the first race at Louisiana Downs. Then, if you win that, you survive to move to the second race. And, on and on until you hit the 10th race. This sounds easy, but 53 people did not make it to the 9th race. On the 9th race, I got extremely lucky. I picked the fastest horse with the top jockey. Near the finish, I saw the top jockey strangling my horse, and he finished fourth. I had #5 and they came in 3, 8, 6, 5. But then I saw why my jockey was strangling my horse. #8 had smashed him against the rail and the jockey was slowing the horse to make certain neither he nor the horse fell down. The Inquiry lasted about 12 hours (may be a slight exaggeration), but, finally, the #8 horse came down and #5 showed. Ooooh, baby! It turned out that 3 of the final 4 had picked #5 and the other guy picked #3. He would have won it all if #8 had not been disqualified. He was not a happy camper, but, if #8 had not mugged #5, he would have certain beaten #6, whose record looked like he shouldn't have been in the race at all.
So, sucking out, we went on to split the prize money, as the 10th race was strictly on form. It wasn't much, but it didn't cost anything, and I bet Louse-E-Anna, anyway.
It was fun to be recognized by my peers as a guy who can suckout to become a champion. <G> |
