It is outlined in the tool box of this site An orphan candle is a candlestick that is alone on the chart with no other candles on either side, it is usually white, and usually large, but does have to be white but in more cases than not it will be white. Volitility throws off the orphan and may place it a little out of the center but it will still be close The chart example above is a perfect example and should mark a short term top.
