The Post article's claim that telomerase inhibition won't work
as a cancer treatment for humans is erroneous. The study referred
to was actually sponsored by Geron and their scientists do not
believe the results are relevant to telomerase and human cancer.
It's been pretty well established that the mouse model is not
appropriate for evaluating the way telomerase works in people.
And given the substantial evidence indicating telomerase
inhibition would be a powerful human cancer therapy, it's absurd
to conclude that the mouse gene-knockout study knocks out the
telomerase/cancer theory.
