Economists say the slowdown has come about because more people are turning to generics and because generic versions of some of the most common drugs have recently come on the market. I think this is only half the story. Please see the annotations in: siliconinvestor.com So should we shorten the time until generics are available? The big issue now is biogenerics (or “biosimilar” drugs or “follow-on biologics”). It’s going to take a lot of negotiation to get a biogenerics bill through Congress—the last thing we need now is for someone to talk about changing the rules for generic small-molecule drugs.
