Re: Olmert, Brown and Sarkozy dust off the Protocol of Sèvres(*) to plot a war against Iran:
You omitted to mention the US -- and doubtless the German "angel" would also like to participate.
Well, I didn't mention the US on purpose since the latter wasn't a party to the secret Protocol of Sèvres --Eisenhower and John Foster Dulles were allegedly kept in the dark, according to Keith Kyle's monograph on the Suez crisis(*).
As for Germany being gung-ho to wage war on Iran, I don't think so --clue:
Why, then, the German obstructionism on efforts to contain a nuclear Iran? Business interests, of course, offer one explanation. Last year, German exports to Iran totaled about $5 billion. Though German trade with Iran has reportedly dropped this year by 20%, some 5,000 German companies -- including major corporations like BASF, Siemens, Mercedes and Volkswagen -- continue to do business in Tehran. As Michael Tockuss, former president of the German-Iranian Chamber of Commerce in Tehran, boasted last year, "Some two-thirds of Iranian industry relies on German engineering products." [...]

Somehow, the current Iranian crisis is a mix of the Arab Revolt of 1916 and the Suez Crisis of 1956. As far as the dramatis personae are concerned, it's indeed a replay of Suez, with Ahmadinejad fancying himself as another Nasser, hence vilified by the West as another Hitler (British PM Anthony Eden thought of Nasser as another Mussolini while French PM Guy Mollet saw him as another Hitler...). There is, however, a major difference between Suez and the Iranian crisis and that's the fact that, never during the Suez crisis (from July to November 1956) did the Western powers seek to enroll Arab countries to their cause (regime change in Egypt). Only a political faction in Iraq was openly in favor of toppling Nasser... Contrariwise, both the Arab Revolt of 1916 and the current US whistle-stop tour across the Middle East share the same objective: rallying as many Arab/Sunni tribes/countries as possible against a non-Arab hegemon (the Ottoman Empire yesterday, Iran today).
