Here is the deal:

1) Reagan permanently fixed Social Security (SS) circa 1982 through a rate hike and a ceiling rift. He also cut the income tax rate - a good thing. Those who weren't watching carefully didn't notice the shell game and hailed Regan as a big tax cutter - anyway, you are going to get all of those SS dollars back with earnings.

2) Clinton organized a special commission to fix SS in his first term circa 1992.

3) Clinton organized a special commission to fix SS during his second term circa 1998.

4) "W" organized a special "bipartisan" commission to fix SS during his first term, circa 2002. It was DOA. It had things like personal savings accounts.

5) "W" started talking about a special commission to fix social security during his second term circa 2005. It never convened.

The bottom line is that if you are under 50 and think that you will ever get any SS you are one of PT Barnum's suckers born every minute.

Short the home builders, buy the foreign oil/gas (black gold) and kick back and relax as the US folds around you. Purchase of a few 45 magnums and K rations might not be a bad idea. Remember you don't pay SS on cap gains. It is important to turn whatever currency you choose to hold into defendable assets in these few years remaining before Armageddon.
