I believe it was fund selection in 1986 and 1987.... but I don't have any actual newsletters or hard data. I don't think Brinker started his P3 until several years later, perhaps after realizing retired folks did not want to sell near the bottom of the 1987 bear and under perform trying to time the market for several years going forward. A new, conservative portfolio after blowing a bear market would have given him something new to talk about on the radio show that would do well compared to being fully invested, should P1 and P2 continue to not go well. That is why Hulbert averages them all for his overall rating.
