"Thats my take on first read. I wonder what you are thinking."

I would like to see how things go in his talks with people at Columbia before giving it too much attention.

It is a year old speech but people don't usually change their principled perspectives from year to year. Truth, justice, respect for the dignity of all human beings with a rejection of domination by aggressive oppressors seems to resonate throughout the speech. These are sound principles IMO. If this ethic carries over to talks and practical dealings with others then we have a good foundation for improving our circumstance.

"We need to talk to these folks if only to prevent a war that would be another disaster."

As always I am for open communication as an alternative to confrontational violence when ever the opportunity presents itself. He doesn't seem to have done too well at talks with/about Israel or the USA, so far. That seems to be a sticking point on his views of mutual respect.
