Methane is 20 times more a greenhoue gas then carbon dioxide. Yes, the frozen north is frozen methane. Many believe the mass extinction (95% of all life on earth)during the permian age 290/390-lol? million years ago was the result of the earth heating up enough from carbon dioxide to then melt the frozen methane which abounds in both the northern peat bogs and the bottom of the ocean.
