No offense taken, so no apology necessary alanrs.

None of us can do much about where we are from, how we are raised or what kind of world we inhabit. And I respect the feelings of others and how they chose to live their lives. The thing that struck me about the couple I was talking to..........an America Doctor and his Nurse wife.......was that they gave me the impression that they much preferred the experience they'd had in Holland, and if only we, here in our country could be so civilized like that wonderfully commendable place....Europe. They might as well have said: Isn't it just awful having to live the way we do here in America. And don't the Europeans have so much to teach us about how to live properly. (as if the circumstances are the same but the people are different.) This is an apples and oranges thing. Europeans just doesn't assimilate their immigrants well and actually frown on it.

Fortunately I was standing there listening to all of this with my husband, and we were both thinking the exact same thing. America is the melting pot of the world and Americans are the most gracious and welcoming people on Earth. (if people come legally that is) And to compare us with a little village in Holland and decry the fact that we are not as good was an insult.

We were much more graceful with our response, and those weren't the exact words we used, but they got our point.

The couple you talked to sound like very nice people that were taught their manners by loving parents.
