A lot of exchanges between people are complex, with little instantaneous adjustments being made on the fly. While we actually do like this couple and the feeling appears mutual, I suspect we do not agree politically, so that subject has never come up. It may at some point, and I feel sure we could have a rational discussion with points being offered and considered on both sides. Janet wasn't there so I have no way to check my instincts, and I'm very good at not giving little body language signals about how I might be taking something, but I did get the impression that the disclaimer about how her own culture had it's idiosyncrasies was an adjustment on her part to the possibility that I might take offense. Again, I didn't think it was disingenuous, just a polite adjustment. My guess is that if I had pursued it she could have given entertaining examples of oddities in various cultures to which she had been exposed. ARS That was a very gracious response to my rudeness. Thank you.
